November 2016 Goals

So Halloween has me thinking about goal setting.

Goals Raleigh Photography

I know it’s weird, but hear me out. Imagine you’re a kid who just got home with a Halloween haul. You started devouring the candy on the way home and now you’re looking forward to claiming a seat on the couch so you can just dig in. About an hour into your pumpkin-shaped bucket, you realize that your stomach is not liking you right now.

Maybe you’re the other kid though. You want to save your candy so you put it under your bed or dump it in a drawer, buuuut then you kind of forget about it. That is, until next Halloween when it’s time to pull out your Halloween bucket again. The candy has melted or taken a turn and it’s a gross old mess.

I’ve been both of these types when it comes to goal-setting. I am a lofty goals type of girl. Am I the only one? Baby steps have never been my thing. I want to make all the changes all at once, but I work up a good momentum for a few days and then it all falls apart. I fail at the follow through. I’ve also been the flip side though where I have goals that tend to sit and rot due to my own inaction. If you’ve been reading along on the blog, you know that I haven’t made it very far with my 30 before 30 list. Here I am at 28 years old and I’ve only actually completed a few of the items.

I started thinking today that if I break down some of these goals into actionable steps, I can finally make some progress. So “Develop and Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle” starts with significantly increasing my water intake. I also need to go back through my list and make sure I have concrete, measurable items on there so I know when I’ve achieved them. So here are the items on the docket for November:

  • Drink 60+ ounces of water daily
  • Be active for at least 30 minutes, 3 times weekly
  • Photograph #AutumnNoémi daily
  • Attempt relactation for at least 2 weeks
  • Mail Thank You cards from baby shower and baby gifts
  • Finish reading Babywise by Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam

  • Hand out one business card daily
  • Go location scouting in Raleigh at least once a week
  • Blog at least 3x weekly
  • Create Pinterest portfolio boards
  • Set up Amazon store
  • Update 30 before 30 list

What about you? Have you been procrastinating when it comes to tackling some of your goals? I know that it’s not New Years’ yet and it’s a little early for resolutions, but why not make use of the time we have? What are some baby steps you can take to get things done this November? I’d love to hear from you!

  • Lillian - I had to Google the definition of “relactation” but these sound like great baby steps! Looking forward to your progress. And also studies have shown that people are more likely to stick to resolutions that are not started at New Years time so you’re off to a good start!ReplyCancel

  • Myrna - This was very insitful. The halloween through me at first because we never celebrated this day, and when eating chocolate and candy corn and pecans I eat until they are gone.(a few of my favorites for the most part). Breaking goals down to bite size chunks is a great idea to help the movement process.

I thought lactation was a misspelling until I read Lillian’s comment. I thought you were trying to relax! Lol

I read it all this morning cause I could. It was a good read, very helpful and informative for encouraging other new moms on the journey.ReplyCancel

    • Mylina - 😁I see how relactation and relaxation could be easily confused! I appreciate your kind wordsReplyCancel
