So my baby girl is one month old already! Not only does Autumn have my dimples, but she has my curls and my melanin too 😉 She’s changed so much in her very first month!

Motherhood has been overwhelming at times, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! I mentioned in my previous post of this series that we struggled a bit with breastfeeding and that Autumn lost an alarming 12% of her birth weight in her first few days. Thankfully, we were able to get her back up to her birth weight by her 2 week mark. Now, she’s gaining weight normally and we’re so thankful.

Guys, do you see the way my husband looks at her? Oh, I swoon. I have loved watching him interact with her. All month long, my husband and I have loved getting to know her as her own little person.

  • Autumn is 8lbs 14oz. 21.5 inches long. She’s gained exactly 2 lbs since birth! It was such a relief to hear this.
  • Baby girl loves to sway. She loves to be rocked to music.
  • I love the way she looks at me while she’s breastfeeding and when she grips the neck of my shirt when she falls asleep on my chest.
  • Autumn loves to stare at our faces. Her expressions while she studies faces is hilarious. She’s got this look that reminds me of The Rock (image courtesy of WWE) and it makes us laugh every time!
  • Baby girl’s been giving us little smiles here and there and cooing at us. We’re  in love!
  • Everyone who meets Autumn is impressed with the control she has over her head and neck. Baby girl is strong!
  • Autumn loves to be worn. I knew from the start of my pregnancy that I didn’t want to lug around a stroller or car seat. So, I babywear Autumn when we are out and about. I find that she tends to go right to sleep when she’s close to Mommy’s chest (plus I can finally get things done).

It’s hard to believe that this time last week I was holding my beautiful baby girl in my arms for the first time after months and months of waiting. I’m sure I’ll be saying this over and over again, but I’m pretty sure that I blinked and a week of her life had passed! I’m still saving Baby Girl’s birth story for her first birthday, and my Mr. and I are keeping her precious face off of social media for the time being. Everyone’s going back and forth on who she looks like. I still think she is a spitting image of my hubby. They even have the same feet! Who knows? Maybe she’ll switch it up and start to look like me. So far, I know for sure that she has my dimples!

This week, we’ve been soaking in all the snuggles and learning as much as we can about our little girl. Breastfeeding is a challenge I didn’t foresee. Latching was a struggle from the beginning. Autumn lost 12% of her body weight within the first week. So, her pediatrician has me supplementing with Enfamil and we saw a lactation specialist to help. I’m trying to stay positive and remember that we’re learning together. I’m willing to try for as long as she is. We’re still trying to get the hang of latching on correctly each time. Aside from breastfeeding and napping when I can, I’ve been staring at her as much as can. I don’t want to miss a moment. Here’s what we’re learning about Autumn so far:

  •  It has been crazy to see how much of her we had already gotten to know through her ultrasounds — her crazy hiccups, the way she keeps her mitts up like a boxer, and even how she loves to sit with her ankles crossed.
  • She loves to sleep on our chests. Baby girl is a snuggler. Works for me! 🙂
  • She doesn’t like laying on her back. Even though she’s only a week old, she will roll to her side before she lets herself fall asleep.
  • She likes music and is amused at Mommy’s attempts at dancing. At least someone thinks I’m funny 😉
  • Baby girl loves to eat! Like, she will have a meltdown if I’m not fast enough with getting it to her. Um, Baby Girl, I feel you. She gets it from her mama 😉

There’s still so much to learn about this precious little girl. Her grandparents and aunts are in love already. Now that our families have gone back home, we are getting some quality time together to see what our new normal will be.

My Father Holding Autumn

If this first week has taught me anything, it’s that I can’t take a moment for granted. I haven’t been great at picking up my camera this first week, but I’m going to kick it into high gear now that I’m feeling better. I’m doing my best to take in one day at a time and not be too eager for her to walk and talk and feed herself. I’m enjoying all of her firsts and getting to know who she is.

If there is one thing I have known my whole life, it’s that I have always wanted to be a mother. I dreamed up the names of my future little ones and wondered what they would look like. On August 15, 2016 at 1:45pm, I met my little girl Autumn Noémi for the first time.

She was 6lbs, 14oz and 19 inches long. Her daddy and I are in love with her already…and so are her grandparents. 😉 I’m spending today with my family and loving on my baby girl, so my posts may be sparse for awhile. I’ve decided that I’m going to save her birth story to post on her first birthday. In the meantime, I’ll be blogging monthly updates about her.

For now, I’ll just be capturing as much of her first year as I can. If you’re on Instagram, you can follow her hashtag: #AutumnNoémi.  I’m so excited to watch her grow!

‘Til next time!

Hello August! There’s something about the start of a new month that always turns my thoughts to goal-setting.

Waking up this morning, my thoughts turned to the list of things I set out to do before I turn 30. I started a blog with my 30 before 30 list back when I turned 25 years old. Looking at this list, I haven’t made much progress. Oops! Since then, priorities have shifted. I’ve taken a few things off of the list and replaced them with others, but this is my final draft.

I’ve got a little less than two years to go, so I had better get started!

  • Lillllllllian - My! You’re back!! It’s good to read from you again 😉 I recently started thinking about turning 30, I think because at IVLI I had a lot of time to just think and it really hit me that 30 is less than a decade away now. Time to make a list of my own 🙂 It’s kinda cool that some of the items you have I also would like to accomplish (I won’t say which until I have my official list done.) I do have 2 questions: Did you do the lettering in the photo that says “30 before 30”? Secondly, can I teach you how to rollerblade? I think that would be fun. Thanks for posting!ReplyCancel

  • Mylina - Hey thanks for reading! My friend Hannah did the lettering in the photo. I think it would be fun to go rollerblading together too, but I’m not sure how soon I’ll be able to try it with baby girl on the way. 😉ReplyCancel

    • Lillian Holt - Well Hannah did a lovely job and I think it would be cool for you to learn lettering. Also, good point about the rollerblading 😉ReplyCancel
