Corey and Shiree have such a sweet chemistry together. They love the Lord and they love children, so it makes perfect sense that their relationship had its early roots in their work as Sunday School teachers. I met Corey and Shiree separately at the church I attended while living in Virginia, and I was excited to be a guest at their wedding. After settling into newlywed life, this adorable couple commissioned me to photograph them for their very first Christmas cards together.  We decided that the best way to capture something that was uniquely them would be to do an in-home session in their first townhome together.

The way they look at each other and laugh together is a beautiful display of the love they share with one another.

Four months with Baby Girl! I noticed that I’m more excited than sad this time around. In the past, I’ve been pretty emotional about how fast she’s growing, but now I’m looking forward to all the things she can do! This month, she is going to be able to try solid foods! I want to wait until her actual 4-month appt so we can get some guidance from her doctor first. I also won’t have any stats on her height and weight until then. But I’ll update this post with her stats and let you know how her first foods went next month! So, without further adieu, here’s an update on her life!

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you saw the first pair of shoes that Autumn wore! My mother in law bought her the cutest little boots for the colder weather. She also knit her a sweater set, which came with little booties that are too small for her feet now! 🙁 Awhile back, Autumn received the shoes below from one of my husband’s friends. I’m hoping that they fit in time for the holidays! Look how adorable and festive they are!

Autumn still loves a good diaper change. I realized from my previous post in this series that I don’t have any images of her getting a diaper change, so I’m hoping that I’ll get to capture this via photo or video before she realizes that it’s just a diaper change. It’s still so amusing to me to see how excited she gets!

These days, it’s rare that we find her sitting without her fingers in her mouth. Everyone says she’s teething, but I think she just discovered her fingers and liked the way they taste!

This month she has started becoming increasingly mobile. I’m not really sure why, but she started doing leg lifts. At times, I’ll look over at her and she’ll just be laying on her back with her legs suspended straight up in the air! I’m thinking she’s going to start rolling over (back to front) soon. In fact, the other day I watched her like, rotate herself — for lack of another way to explain it. But don’t take my word for it!

Ugh! The connection I feel with this little girl is truly amazing. After she has her first bottle of the morning, she’ll usually lay on my chest and just look up at me. I love those moments when she just looks up at me with her big, beautiful eyes and her little dimples.

I also love watching my husband with Autumn. When he wakes up in the morning and joins me and Autumn on the couch, she doesn’t take her eyes off of him. He loves getting home from work to see his little girl. When asked, my hubby always says that he loves fatherhood — that it felt like it came naturally. I know there has been a learning curve for us as new parents, but the love we have for her can be described as just that — natural.

I struggled with writing this entry because it is one that is close to my heart. Even though it has a happy ending, it is one that begins with loss. I worked with Chelsea at my last place of employment in Virginia. She and her husband Brian invited me to photograph the two of them toward the very beginning of my photography journey. They were so much fun to work with and were patient with me while I was still learning. I was so excited for them when I heard that they were expecting their first child! However, shortly after they shared the news, they lost their child. My heart broke for Chelsea as her first pregnancy ended in a loss. I couldn’t imagine their pain.

Over the next year, I prayed for healing for them after such a devastating loss. When Chelsea told us that she was pregnant again, I rejoiced with her in nervous excitement. I knew that this pregnancy would be difficult for her emotionally, and all I knew to do was pray. The grace of God is truly overwhelming. On December 4, 2015, Chelsea gave birth to Everhett Joseph and the swooning began. Baby Ev turns a year old this weekend, so today I’m sharing some of my favorite images from his newborn session last year.

As parents, we must be intentional about being photographed with our children. As a new mother myself, I understand how it may be uncomfortable to be photographed in this new body I don’t recognize, but I have to remember to step outside of myself and do it for my child. These are the images our children will cherish. It also helps to put into perspective just how tiny they were!

This makes me sad and I miss them. But whenever Chelsea sends me an update on his milestones or a picture of him in his dapper little outfits, I can’t help but smile. Happiest of Birthdays, sweet boy! Brian and Chelsea, I’m still rejoicing with you — even from a distance!

Hey  December, I’m ready!

baby boots

Has anyone else just had a difficult year? I don’t know about you, but 2016 has rocked me! I’m actually excited that this year is almost over! If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I like to begin the month by listing what I hope to accomplish over the next 30 or so days. Let’s revisit my November goals first, though, shall we?

  • Drink 90+ ounces of water daily
  • Be active for at least 30 minutes, 3 times weekly
  • Photograph #AutumnNoémi daily
  • Attempt relactation for at least 2 weeks
  • Write Autumn’s birth story
  • Take Russell family portraits
  • Mail Thank You cards from baby shower and baby gifts
  • Finish reading Babywise by Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam
  • Hand out one business card daily
  • Go location scouting in Raleigh at least once a week
  • Blog at least 3x weekly
  • Create Pinterest portfolio boards
  • Set up Amazon store
  • Update 30 before 30 list

After thinking through some of my goals, I realized that some of them would be best placed in my January to do list. I just failed at being consistent with some of my other goa;s, so I’m moving them to this month. All in all, I achieved about half of the goals from last month. I’m counting that a success! 😉 Here’s what I’ve got on the docket for December:

Personal Goals

  • Drink 90+ ounces of water daily
  • Be active for at least 30 minutes, 3 times weekly
  • Implement Babywise principles to help Autumn sleep through the night
  • Read Burden of Proof by Brandon Russell 😘
  • Register for Spring 2017 semester
  • Finalize my New Year’s resolutions
  • Photograph Autumn daily
  • Lose 10lbs by the New Year

Business Goals

  • Blog 3x weekly
  • Attend a networking event
  • Create PDF pricing guide
  • Refresh look of website
  • Post on social media at least once every weekday
  • Read How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

So this month, I have many more personal goals than business goals, but that’s because I know I will have a long list of things to add to January when the time comes! I think the goals I have so far will be enough to keep me busy for the month! Anyone else thinking about their New Year’s resolutions already? Do people even still do that?! 😜 Maybe I should focus on this month for the time being. It’s time to put on my big girl boots. Who’s with me? Let’s end 2016 strong!💪🏽

Last week, I was invited to a one-year-old little girl’s birthday party. Remember this beautiful mama-to-be? Well, Addison Claire was born on Thanksgiving Day last year, and then the months just started flying by! Since I moved out of state, I couldn’t make it to her party, but the invitation took me all the way back to when we had her newborn session. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane, shall we? 😉
